Essence determines existence

“Essence determines existence. Who I am essentially determines how I exist practically.” – Ravi Zacharias

Listening to a Ravi sermon in my iPod this morning, I was reminded of this important point – we are not determined by what we do, no, our significance comes from who we are, who we know, and what we are essentially. That is to say, whether I have a “noble” job, a run-of-the-mill job, or no job at all, I am still a precious creation, a man loved by God. All to often, I fall into the trap of wanting to pursue different things as though they make me better quantitatively, when instead, I should be pursuing qualitative improvement in my life to see fruits in other parts of my life. I hope I make sense.

In other news, I’m finally going to recycle that TV (courtesy of George, courtesy of Sun Microsystems) that turns off by itself! Thanks Dave!
