Revisiting some old pics. Here’s one from 2000, from Amboseli, Kenya. During the middle of our safari through the plains, we stopped and visited a Masai village. These people have two primary economies – cows and tourism. All their “capital” was basically in their herds. If they lost their herd, not only did they lose their source of food (they’d eat everything, drink blood, all that good stuff), but they’d lose any bargaining power. Where they lived, there were virtually no natural resources, but they were able to make do. I spied these two kids, brothers I think, holding hands by one of the huts. I thought it was a powerful moment. Sometimes I really forget how much of a world of plenty I live in, and how thankful I should be to God for every single thing as a gift from above.
